Question 14 · What does AI mean for us as people?
Will AI take my job away?
Short version
It is more likely to change your job than to replace it. Individual tasks disappear, new ones get added. Activities that are mainly routine screen work are under the most pressure.
Long version
AI rarely replaces an entire profession, but rather individual tasks within it: summarizing documents, writing standard texts, translating, simple programming work. If you have many such tasks, you feel the change more strongly. Skilled trades, care work, and jobs with a lot of personal contact are less affected.
The World Economic Forum surveyed over a thousand large employers in 2025. By 2030, they expect around 170 million new jobs and 92 million lost jobs worldwide. On balance, that is a net gain, but with large shifts between occupations. Almost 40 percent of today's in-demand skills are expected to change by then.
Learning to use AI for your own tasks improves your starting position. That is no guarantee, but it is a direction you can influence yourself.
AI replaces tasks. People who use it replace people who do not.
